Dhruba Ghosh

Dhruba Ghosh is the inheritor of the tradition of his masters, his father Pandit Nikhil Ghosh, the famed percussionist and pedagogue, Pandit Dinkar Kaikini, the veteran vocalist-composer and Ustad Sagiruddin Khan, the renowned sarangi maestro of the legendary Bundu Khan tradition of Delhi. He is now recognised for transforming the traditional classical sarangi of North India into a multi-dimensional expression. Dhruba's creative genius, extraordinary control of this complicated bowed instrument and his innovations in technique within the fabric of the traditional structure has distinguished him as a front-ranking virtuoso and stylist of the sarangi today.

This album is divided in two parts. The first, "Sajanaa tum aao", is a Karnatic raga, now popularly adopted in North Indian music. The scale uses flat sixth and seventh. The primary mood of this raga is pathos that sees a new light emerging out of the sadness. The second part, "Tarasa", is another raga from Karnatic system Raga Kirwani. This raga uses flat third and sixth. The primary mood is pathos.
